Misty Montserrat

Montserrat Mountain

Ain’t travel great.  Besides getting to visit the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey near Barcelona, we also got to wander around another mountain.

Ermitage de Sant Jeroni

This is one of the many hermitages and chapels which are along the paths from the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey in Catalonia about 50 kilometers from Barcelona. The main abbey, reachable by rack railway, clings to the mountain side close to the top. From there there are a few kilometres of trails providing splendid views of the countryside, the Mediterranean and a short climb to the main peak -Sant Jeroni. I’ve often wondered how a monk could live for years on his own without human contact searching for serenity and inner peace. Obvious that quite a number have chosen that life over the past few hundred years at Montserrat.
